How the Gluten-Free give thanks & Gluten-Free stuffing

Be sure to check out my latest article on Examiner.com: How the Gluten-Free give thanks. Included in the article are a recipe for easy gluten-free stuffing (dressing), tips on thanksgiving foods to be wary of, and recommendations for some gluten-free thanksgiving products/substitutes.

Happy Turkey Day Everyone! I'll be freezing my butt off in Wisconsin with my sister and her family! I'll be making some of that gluten-free stuffing and will upload pictures when I get back!

Gluten-Free Cornbread

A Gluten-Free Corn Bread Recipe! Just in time for the Holidays! I simply adapted a corn bread recipie from the one and only Paula Dean. Instead of flour I substituted a gluten-free mix and oatmeal!
It was delicious with some chili made with ground turkey, carrots, and beans.
Usually, my first attempts at gluten-free adaptations aren't this successful! I had never made cornbread before especially not a gluten-free version. I was extremely happy with the result: a fluffy, moist, sweet cornbread. The only bad thing was that I couldn't stop eating it!!

Udi's Gluten-Free Bread

Check out my review for Udi's Gluten-Free Bread!
And don't worry, all of my product reviews won't be getting 5 stars. I just have to put my favorites up here first!

Gluten? Isn't That Like Sugar?

Gluten/Glucose- what’s the difference? Most people who follow a gluten-free diet have heard these questions many times. Whether they are out to eat at a restaurant, cooking at home with a friend, or shopping at the neighborhood grocery store, many people with Celiac Disease or a Gluten Intolerance have to deal with the general lack of knowledge about that dirty word: “Gluten”. So what is gluten exactly? Gluten is a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye and is a term that is becoming more widely known with each passing day.

"Bread People" - Gluten-Free Bread Made the Cut!

Pun intended. Bread People is a wacky site dedicated to making celebrities faces into "bread heads" and manipulating their names to fit the change. Highlights are: Biscotti Pippin (Scottie Pipin), Steven Gluten-Free Bread (Steve Guttenberg), Mr. Tea Biscuit (Mr. T) and Pumpernickolas Cage (Nicholas Cage). Some of them are actually a little disturbing but they are all pretty funny. Take a look! (You may have to refresh the page.)

Winter Woodchuck - First Product Review!

Woodchuck is a great brand in general. It has become very popular among gf-ers and non-gf-ers alike! Because of it's popularity it is becoming more readily available and gf-ers every where are thankful.

I was on a late night Kroger run when I happened to walk down the beer aisle on my way to get some milk. I believe I was keeping an eye out to see if they had started carrying Red Bridge - a gluten-free beer- when I saw the woodchuck and the new winter flavor caught my eye.

If  woodchuck amber or 802 is too sweet for you- try the winter flavor. It has a less sweet - more "beer" flavor to it and personally I think it has a better "drinkability" than its sweeter counter parts. I don't know how long it will be around so go try it now!

Welcome!

Hello all! Welcome to Whit's Gluten Free Blogspot. I will be using this site as a jumping off point for when I begin writing for Examiner.com. I will be posting my full articles on my Examiner site so please be sure to check them out. I created this blog as a place to keep things organized and user friendly.

My Story: The Long-Winded Version
In June of 2007, I was with my family visiting my sister, Jackie, in Wisconsin. Jackie's mother-in-law has a small hair styling salon and I just happened to be hanging out there with my nieces when I randomly picked up a women's health magazine and began flipping through. I stopped on an article about "gluten-free." It caught my eye 1. because I knew my grandmother was "gluten-free" and I had no idea what that actually meant and 2. the article had a bit about Elizabeth Hasselbeck from survivor (my mom and I used to be wayyyy into survivor). So I began reading the article, which had an in-depth description of the symptoms of a gluten allergy. The article also explained how Elizabeth had first come to realize there was something "right" with her after she began her "survivor diet" of rice, fish, and fruit. All of a sudden it clicked.
